Leeds Bridge Club    Code of Conduct

The following guidelines have been produced to set standards of conduct for members and visitors at Leeds Bridge Club Ltd., with the objective of creating a pleasant environment when playing Bridge.  Please try to follow the code.

1.      Please be polite to your partner and the opponents.

2.      Please do not gloat over a favourable result.

3.      Do not discuss previous hands at the next table, or when your new opponents arrive.

4.      If you play N/S, please make sure you know how to score accurately, check each score and pair number with your opponents.

5.      When things go wrong, please don’t make your own rulings; call the director (In a manner which will not cause offence)

6.      Do not give advice unless asked for.

7.      Hesitations are sometimes inevitable and depending on the situation, may be acceptable.  The Director is the best person to resolve any issues.

8.      If you are thinking of bidding, Think first then pick out the bid from the box.  Be careful not to fumble around with your bidding box and then pass:

9.      Don’t argue with your partner: it is rude and embarrassing for other players. If you wish to discuss a hand, do it after the end of the session!

10. If you are in any doubt at all, no matter how minor or you have any disagreement with your opponents, then please call the Director.

11. The board in play should remain on the table in the correct direction.

12. Declarer should avoid touching Dummy’s cards, by asking partner to play the card.

13. When using a Stop-Bid, it should remain on the table for around 10 seconds to allow the left-hand opponent (LHO) time to consider any options.  LHO should take no action during this period.

14. Please pass (do not throw) boards across the room to next table:

15. Please clear away used cups, cans, bottles, sweet papers before you leave and leave the table chairs and bidding boxes set neatly for the next event.

16. Above all, please try to be pleasant: We all come to the club for relaxation and to have an enjoyable evening.

Thankyou for your cooperation.

Please note: The Bridge Club can only pay for 1 cup of tea/coffee per session. If you want a second cup, you must pay for it.
